How to Prevent Comments on WP

The aim is to stop or prevent comments on WordPress. I know this is unusual but you might, as I have, decide that for some of your sites, you no longer want to have comments made on your blogs.  For me, it is nothing bad – no one said anything nasty or disturbing.

However I have found that more and more, I just am so involved with other things that I don’t get a chance to respond to comments in a timely manner.  And this makes me feel guilty and under-performing.  So I have decided to find out how to stop all comments from readers.  Sorry commentors!

Steps:

from WP dashboard >> Settings >> Discussion >> untick ‘Allow people to post comments on new articles’ >> Save Changes

how to prevent comments on WP

What Happens After Stopping People from Commenting

  • New articles: by default, no comments box will be available to readers.  Though you can manually allow comments per article when you edit the post/page. (That option is below the Discussion section when within the edit mode.)
  • Existing articles: existing comments on articles will not disappear.  And the comments box is still there.  (To remove the comments box from existing articles, you need to remove that option from within the page/post in edit mode.)
