Squidoo Modules List

There are many many modules on Squidoo that you can use, but so many that it is really confusing. And I think it eats a lot of bandwidth if you were to sit there and play around with them. But if you don't play with them, how will you know what each module does and what it might look like?

This here is a list of modules currently available on Squidoo. I will not have information on all the modules (and Squidoo adds to this list all the time) but will add the summary information as I get them. This will give you an overview of what the module does and what it might look like.

Introduction, Contents & Discovery Tool

As mentioned in "Write a Lens", there is one required module that will automatically be there as soon as you start a new article (lens): the Introduction, Contents & Discovery Tool

You cannot delete this module. You can only edit it.

What it does

You can add a Introduction title to your page, some intro text, an optional image, and optional index ("Contents At a Glance").

List of all Modules

Click on "Add Modules" link at the top bar of your edit page. A full alphabetical list of available modules will pop up. As you add (click the + sign) a module, it will appear in the left box of "You've Added ..."

About Me

A block of information that you can add to your page. It pulls in your profile info. Best for bios, lensography, resume style lenses. You can also choose to place it at the bottom of all your lenses as an About the Author spot. (personally I would not recommend the latter. With all the other modules you might be adding, it gets very messy, IMHO)

Amazon

This is one of the most popular and best earning module on Squidoo. You can feature products (from Amazon of course) and write personal reviews about them. Like a recommendation to your readers.

Amazon Voting (Plexo)

Popular. You can create a list of favourite sites (for example) and because this is a plexo, you can allow your reader to grade your list by ranking any item on your list up or down. You can also allow your readers to add to your list and you can choose to share your plexo^[definition] - i.e. readers can subcribe to it via RSS, or have it on their lens via various means. You get a direct cut of sales that have been clicked through from your lens.

Amazon Recommendations

Here you can pick ONE favourite item and Amazon will automatically choose up to 5 other similar items and display them.

Amazon Spotlight

Use this when you truly and wholeheartedly want to spread the word and recommend an incredible book / DVD/ item. Write your own personal review about it. (I suppose) this will be featured boldly on your page. You choose only ONE single product to highlight and recommend.

ArtByUs Artist Module

This looks like it is only for members of ArtByUs. ArtByUs.com is an auction site for selling real art by real artists. This module allows a member to showcase their works.

Backtype

(not sure what this does)

Big Arrow Link

The accompanying image shows how it might look like. It allows you to highlight one specific URL that you really want readers to take note of.

Black Box

The accompanying image shows how it might look like. It allows you to highlight short text for dramatic effect.

CafePress module

This is great for people who have their own CafePress store: generate publicity for their products. You can also earn a bit of money even if you don't own a CafePress store: by displaying items that can be sold from CafePress.

Ebay

Popular module and said to be a good money earner. It allows you to display Ebay auction items. You can let ebay choose, or you choose specific items or by store/seller name. And you get a direct cut out of every sale.

Etsy

A great module especially for Etsy sellers. Create lens to promote your own items on Etsy or to generate leads to your Etsy store.

Flickr Photos

Popular module. You can pull in photos from Flickr without having a Flickr account. You can have the photos automatically picked, you specify which photos you want, or you pick photos by Photosets (Photosets only applies if you have a Flickr account)

Google Blog Search

Popular module. Based on search terms that you specify, you can pull in either matching news or blogs from Google and you can specify how often you want this updated.

Guestbook

Popular module. Lets you specify some topic (normally related to your article) and allow your readers to comment on it.

Link List

Popular module. Lets you specify a number of (hyperlinked) lists of relevant pages, sites, articles, etc. to your page content. Could make it easier for your readers to find other relevant information.

RSS: Add your blog

You can create customised RSS feeds on your page. The contents will be automatically pulled from the site/ location you specify. This is a good way to get traffic and interest to your other sites. (Hopefully you will keep it in context with your contents for relevancy.)

Text Module

Popular module. So useful that it is almost essential. Allows you to enter blocks of text with a heading (title) and optional photos. Looks like the photos can be hyperlinked?

YouTube vids

Popular module. Allows you to embed youTube videos right into your lens. There are various ways on how you can select the videos you want.
