Adding a Favicon to your Drupal Site

your own favicon

There are many favicon (favourite icon) generators out there - many of them very good and free. You can just Google for them. The one I use and like is FavIcon from Pics.

It is very simple.

Favicons usually appear both in the browser address bar and on the tabs.
  1. You go to the site
  2. You can upload the image you want to make into an icon from there. Browse to your stored image and upload the file.
  3. It will generate both static and animated icon for you.
  4. You can download the package (.zip file)
  5. Once downloaded, unzip it.
  6. It comes with a ReadMe.txt so just read that and follow along. (If you have a Drupal sites, you don't even need the instructions in this file! Read on..)

FavIcon for Drupal Sites

Once you have unzipped your icons from above and decided which one you are going to use (static vs. animated) you can go to the admin area of your Drupal site:
Administer > Site Building > Themes > (your Default theme) > Configure (link next to default theme)
Scroll down page to "Shortcut icon settings".
In the "Upload icon image:" box, browse to your selected icon (favicon.ico or animated_favicon1.gif) and 'Save Configuration'.

Drupal will automatically rename the file when you save.

Go to your browser and refresh you site. You should see your favicon for all pages of your site.
