NetworkedBlogs

NetworkedBlogs Facebook application NB (NetworkedBlogs is an application on FB (Facebook).

Can add more than one blog, if you have more than one. To start/join NB, you need to subscribe/follow 5 other blogs (they give suggestions). Can delete later if you like. And you also need to verify that the blog you add is yours. Either via 10 people verifying or adding a NB box to the right column of your blog page template (not to an individual post alone.) Again this can be removed later if you like. I don't know why the right column but them's the instructions. If you are allowed to delete this (after verification - which is pretty instant), then I suppose you can move this box around on your blog site as well.

NetworkedBlogs boxThis is what the NB box looks like.

It has gotten a bit confusing for me (after a few weeks into using NB). There is another similar box that Google provides that allows readers to choose to follow your blog if they wish. I am going to find out what the difference. But for now, I want to get a clearer picture of how NB does the automatic postings to my FB.

Addendum
Alas, have found out something - I cannot just replace my NB box with Google Friend Connect box. They are quite distinct sets of followers. The NB box allows Facebook-ers to become a follower that way. The GFC box allows others to become followers via other means like via their Twitter account or an OpenID. So for now, it looks I will have to have both boxes on my sites - even though I don't have that many followers yet (hint hint ;).

Where is your NB app?

Once you have joined NB, you should be able to find it by

Account > Applications > NetworkedBlogs

which will take you to NB's home page. The "Profile" tab at the top of that page means it is your NB profile. Here are your NB settings controls.

Auto Posting from Blogs to FB (summary)

  1. Register (add) each blog(s) to NB.
    NB's Home > + Register a Blog (button)
  2. Set so that NB will automatically pull new blogs from your (registered) sites to display in your FB.
  3. Set if that is to be displayed on your personal wall and/or (business) page's wall.
NetworkedBlogs settings menu

Once you have registered your blogs/sites on NB, you can set up settings and do various tweaks. To do so, click on the name of a specific blog (you have already added) and on the right you will see a menu with various options.

Auto Post and Feed Settings

To set up auto posting (from blog to FB), click on "Feed Settings". Here you can specify if you want NB to auto post (new) blogs from a particular (blog) site to:

  • your FB Personal Profile and/or
  • your (fan) page(s) and/or
  • to one of your nominated Twitter accounts

But if you choose to auto-post a blog to both your FB Personal Profile as well as to your FB Page(s) ... where exactly will it appear? And will there be duplicates?

The image below helps explain this. And thankfully, there are no obvious (and potentially annoying) duplicates. In the image below, you will note that the auto blog posting will appear in the News Feed if you choose to auto post to either the Personal Profile or (fan) page. However when you choose to autopost to both, it will thankfully only appear once in the News Feed.

Blogs that you Follow

Where are they?

The blogs that you follow (via NB) appears in 2 places (that I know of at the moment).

1. in you NB's profile page: towards the bottom, you will see a list of the blogs you follow

2. If you have set up a "Blog" tab (sorry, I can't remember exactly how I did that anymore) in your general FB settings, then under that tab you will also see the list of blogs you follow (beneath the list of blogs that you write and have registered with NB).

Where are your list of Followers?

in you NB Profile, when you click on (select) a specific blog you have registered with NB, towards the bottom of the page, you will see the list (or icons) of your followers.

If you have installed the NB box gadget on your (blog) site iteself, you can also see the list of your followers there.

How do you get more followers via NB?

The natural (but usually slower) way is when people find your blog, they like what they read, and they decide to follow you. But NB also gives you a way to accelerate this process.

In you NB Profile page, select one of your blogs and look at the settings menu. You will notice that there is a "Invite People to Follow" link. From there you can send out invitation to your list of FB friends to follow your blog.

NB invitation received is what the recipient will see in his FB personal Home page.

NB shows you your list of friends and you can choose who you want to invite. It is very cool that NB will hide friends who are already following your blog or have already been invited before. Cuts down on annoyance factor :D

There is a generic Facebook imposed invitation (to follow your blog) limit of 12 persons per day. Not for each blog, but overall, 12 people. So if you sent out 12 invitations for a specific blog and you have another blog you also want to send out invitations for, then you will have to wait till the following day to do so.
