Setting Default App on Mac

If you want a specific app to open certain file types rather than the default app, then”How to set default apps on Mac” is how you do it.

Note: it looks like you have to choose each file type separately.  There is no way to choose the desired app and specify which file types it opens by default.

For example, I wanted most of my image files (.jpg, .png, .gif) to be opened by Gimp when I double clicked those file types.  [Apple uses Preview.app as its default app to open those file types.]  To achieve that, I have to find one of each of those file types and specify that they are to be opened henceforth with Gimp software.
