Twitter and DMOZ

Can you Twitter your way into DMOZ?

I was just wondering the other day if Twitter, or rather, being on Twitter improves one's chances of being included in DMOZ (aka Open Directory Project) and hence, somewhat on their Google Ranking and SEO aspirations. Well I found out in a most unexpected way. DMOZ is one of the top two most desired directory listings you want to get into if you are SEO aware.

In one of my guises, I do some DMOZ editing. I am still quite new there and am still learning the ropes. Nonetheless, I am an editor (and yes, before you ask, it is quite fun and no, I cannot take requests - not even my own). Anyway, in one of my Twitter accounts yesterday, I was just going through my followers to see if there was anyone I needed to follow. And I came across this person with a link to his site. So having a bit of resistance to going to bed, I went to his site instead.

I stayed a while, being pleasantly surprised and impressed with some of his content. It so happened that the site fitted exactly into the DMOZ category I am editing. So, happy to have found a quality site, I added him to DMOZ. Which is great news for him even though I cannot actually contact him to let him know.

Well now I know of at least one way how Twitter could affect a site's chances to get into DMOZ!
