What is Google Friend Connect?

The official line is that this is a Google online service that instantly helps make your site(s) social. But what does that mean?

It offers various gadgets (code) that you can put on your sites which among other things allow readers to easily choose to become followers (of that blog/site).

Facebook Fan Page - notes

Note that it is against FB's policy to have your user account under a business name. But having a fan page for business is ok. And is actually better: indexed by Google, viewable by public (whether they are FBers or not). Plus your FB account/username is limited to 5,000 friends. Your fan pages are unlimited. Anyone can search/see/find it.

Facebook - blah blah blah. You (sort of) know what it is. Me too. So I won't go into all the intro dribble. In fact I am trying to cut down on all that yak yak that seems to consume so much time to write and document. So here is the intent: quick and dirty only: the essentials FB how-tos.

My starting point: I assume you know how to sign up and how to get a few friends. Now I will move on from there.

What does "follow" mean on Twitter? How do you find someone to follow on Twitter and/or get someone on Twitter to follow you?

On Twitter, you can be a follower, or you can have followers, or both.

For you to follow someone on Twitter just means that you will get their real time updates (tweets) on your Twitter page.

Public @Replies

Twitter Public Replies - @Replies

@username is an example of a @Reply. You can directly reply to some user's tweet by putting the "@" in front of his/her Twitter username. You do not have to be a follower or followee of the user to make a public reply to him.

After you have tweeted your public reply, on your own Twitter home page (www.twitter.com/yourUserName), you will immediately see your tweet. This is viewable by the public hence it is a public reply directed at a specific user.

Direct Message

Twitter Direct Messages: Can I send a Private Tweet?

Yes you can but only to a follower (i.e. a person who is following you). You cannot send a private direct message to someone you are following but who is not following you.
Direct messages are private messages in that only you and the recipient can view it.
